About Us

The philosophy of the Bennett Tiger Volleyball Program is to play the best athletes at the varsity level and to provide a positive learning experience for all of the athletes on the team. The Bennett High School Student Handbook, The Bennett High School Student Activity/Athletic Handbook, the Bennett High School Coaches Athletic Handbook, The Bennett Volleyball Team Rules/Guidelines Handbook, and all Bennett School District 29J Documents pertaining to High School Athletics, Academics, and Behavior are the Overall Guidelines.

We are representatives of Bennett, so we should act accordingly on the court, off the court, in the school and in the community.

Volleyball
Your understanding of the game is how you see it when you are watching and how you feel it when you are playing.” Players with great volleyball senses have a kind of vision—the ability to see and analyze what is happening on the court. This vision can be learned. See movement of entire court and monitor player’s movement on both sides. This “vision’ more often happens when players immerse themselves in the game. These types of players are “problem solvers”, “positive self talkers”, “positive team players”, and “communicators.”

Teamwork

“We are talking about teamwork at a rarified level, a swarm of people acting as one.”   To be courageous…is an opportunity that sooner or later is presented to all of us. You see a bad situation and are reluctant or shy to do or say anything, but a leadership moment is being presented to you. You don’t have to do anything, but if you do you are a leader. It takes a lot of work, but it can be done. Do we have a problem? Then it needs to be addressed so we can move on and focus on volleyball. Blaming and talking behind each other’s backs is destructive.

Core Values

The truly extraordinary make a little progress every day. Quite simply, all it really means is coming to practice ready to play.

We believe in competition and in developing confidence. Pressure is something you feel when you do not know what you are doing.

We make good decisions on and off the volleyball court—we have a complete commitment to becoming the best we can become. Don’t give up what you want most for what you want now.

When things don’t go our way, and often they won’t, we don’t whine—we deal with adversity.

We don’t lose our composure—we don’t freak out over ridiculous issues or live in fragile states of emotion or create crisis or drama where they do not exist.

It takes composure to serve the ball in.

We are responsible and accountable to ourselves and to our teammates. We care about each other as teammates and as human beings.

Pursuit Rule: you should stop pursuing a ball only if:

The ball strikes the floor, or an out of bounds object (almost everything in our gym is in bounds).

Continued pursuit would risk injury.

A teammate calls mine.

The referee’s whistle stops play.

Competition

During a match players not in the game should be ready at a moments notice to go into the game.

We support every member of our team.
